INDUSTRY TOP 100 – three HORIBA MIRA colleagues named in Autocar’s 2020 list
Three HORIBA MIRA colleagues have been named in the 2020 list of Autocar’s Great Women in the British Car Industry.
The annual initiative celebrates the top 100 women in the automotive world based on their seniority and level of influence. HORIBA MIRA’s winners are Lisa Rowles, Human Resources Director, Roisin Hopkins, Test Services Director and Madeline Cheah, Cybersecurity Innovation Lead.
Run by Autocar, in association with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the industry’s top 100 was announced online on 16 September when, as in previous years, the event celebrated all the winners and hosted several keynote speeches, panellists and debates.
The top 100 are selected from the following areas of the car industry: aftersales and workshop, executive, marketing, manufacturing, operations, people development, PR and communications, sales, vehicle development, mobility and digital. Sitting outside the top 100, there is also a category for apprentices to celebrate new talent within the industry.
Autocar stated: “Autocar launched the Great Women in the British Car Industry initiative to inspire more women to consider a career in the industry we love. The current imbalance between the numbers of men and women in the industry is dramatic. It is our hope that by shining a spotlight on those who have both reached the top, and those we consider to be the industry’s brightest rising stars, more women will consider the rich, exciting careers that are open to them.”
Roisin, who is listed in the Vehicle Development category said:
“I am very proud to have been able to progress my career at HORIBA MIRA, alongside many other skilled and successful women. It is great to see the event promoting opportunities for women in this sector, and I’m honoured to be listed in the Top 100 British Women in the global automotive industry. There are too few women selecting engineering as a career choice and consequently missing out on the ability to work in an exciting and innovative industry.”
Lisa, who is listed in the People Development category said:
“It’s humbling to be recognised in this year’s list as I also reach 25 years of service with MIRA. In that time it has been wonderful to be a part of a community who quite rightly pride themselves on creating an environment of trust, confidence, and support so that every individual at MIRA can journey through their career authentically as themselves. I have the privilege of working with many truly inspirational people at our great company, and across the HORIBA Group, and will continue to do my part to develop the very best team – one that nurtures our people, reflects our values, and embraces the success we can unlock through all aspects of our diversity.”
Madeline, who is listed in the mobility and digital category said:
“For three of us from HORIBA MIRA to make the list, amongst the calibre of professionals and organisations listed, is fantastic. It’s also great that this initiative highlights and celebrates diversity and role models within our industry – that is so important for us to inspire and attract the much-needed next generations of talent. I’m passionate about sponsoring STEM careers among younger people, I consider it part of my job to do so, and so I’m delighted and humbled to be part of this year’s list and part of the initiative to celebrate diversity in the industry.”
The top 100 were selected by a panel of judges led by Autocar’s managing director Rachael Prasher and key editorial staff, plus representatives from the SMMT.
