Intrepid primarily works with automotive OEMs in developing new vehicles, providing network-based tools (similar to black boxes) to improve vehicle hardware and software.

Intrepid’s data logging and diagnostics tools collect data to help engineers identify complex issues that would otherwise go undetected, like unusual current draw or network anomalies. Vehicles are becoming ever more complex, and the industry is moving toward connected and autonomous vehicles. As a result, vehicles require more data analysis before production to ensure high performance and quality, making these tools increasingly important.

The UK office follows a significant expansion in the UK market over the past three years. The new facility, opening in January 2018, will provide space for the business to continue to develop its UK portfolio and team. The company is recruiting engineers for the UK team, aiming to double the size of the business over the next decade.

Intrepid selected MIRA Technology Park for its UK office due to its proximity to Midlands-based vehicle manufacturers, as well as Warwick University, with which it has a working relationship. The business also chose to move to the park due to its status as an Enterprise Zone, which helps remove barriers to private sector growth by cutting taxes, easing planning restrictions and providing tools businesses need to invest and expand.

Carl Hills, Director of Intrepid Control Systems Ltd., said:

“Following a strong period of growth in the UK market, we’re thrilled to be opening our first UK-based office at MIRA Technology Park. The site provides resources that aren’t available elsewhere, and being so close to existing and potential customers is ideal as we grow.”

The park’s extensive list of tenants—including GKN, Haldex, Bentley, Bosch and Continental—creates a collaborative environment for Intrepid’s technologies. Intrepid will also be able to provide diagnostic tools for the vehicles in R&D at HORIBA MIRA, a service previously unavailable.

Terry Spall, Commercial Director at MIRA Technology Park, said:

“Intrepid brings vital diagnostics technologies and skills to the Technology Park, and we’re delighted to welcome another very successful and innovative international business into our technology cluster.

“We have seen continued investment in infrastructure and commercial floor space and have been joined by eight new businesses from around the globe this year. I’m sure the Intrepid team will take advantage of the extensive facilities and proximity to many OEM teams right on their doorstep, key USPs for many companies based at the Technology Park.”

Since 2010, MIRA Technology Park has welcomed over 40 globally-recognised businesses. It has also become one of the UK’s top performing Enterprise Zones, and is rapidly gaining recognition as a premier location in Europe for automotive research and development.
