Launching Emily’s Winning Soapbox Design
MIRA’s ‘car of the future’ soapbox artwork competition proved a great success ahead of this year’s Hinckley Soapbox Derby, with the engineering consultancy receiving nearly two hundred entries from school children in the local area.
Seth Mayhew, one of the MIRA’s graduates said,
“The response to the competition took us by surprise and made choosing a winner very difficult. A number of local schools put a lot of effort into this competition, particularly Sketchley Hill and Battling Brook Primary School who submitted a large amount of entries.
Due to the quality of the entries received throughout the competition finding a winner was tough, however after much deliberation the judging panel were able to hand-pick the following winning entries: 1st prize -Emily (class 2H), 2nd prize – Hannah (class 6W) and 3rd prize – Reuben (class 2H), with all the winners coming from Sketchley Hill Primary School. The three winners were presented with their ‘art box’ prizes by MIRA apprentices Samantha Goadsby and James Horseman along with graduate Seth Mayhew, and their school mates were treated to an exclusive viewing of the racer ahead of the derby this weekend.
The judges were really impressed with the stars and planets ‘space’ theme that made up Emily’s design and this has been featured on the body of MIRA’s soapbox. The MIRA team will be competing in the Hinckley soapbox race on Sunday 8th July, and will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
