MIRA Awarded Accreditation to Deliver Internationally Recognised Safety Certification

We have strengthened our offer for global OEMs by becoming the first automotive facility in the UK to be certified to deliver an internationally recognised accredited certification scheme for functional safety.

MIRA’s UKAS accreditation has been extended against EN 45011 (ISO/IEC Guide 65) to include ISO 26262, Road Vehicles – Functional Safety. This enables us to grant formal certification to customers for Functional Safety assessments.

ISO 26262 is widely accepted in the industry as best practice for the development of electrical and electronic systems in vehicles. Functional safety audits and assessments against ISO 26262 are carried out by MIRA under the accreditation, giving customers a high level of confidence in the assessment process.

Customers will benefit from independent third party verification of their processes and products with an EN 45011 Accredited Certificate, which is a Product Certification process that is more stringent and applicable than alternative accreditation standards.

Although ISO 26262 is not a direct legal requirement, we pride ourselves at MIRA on the strength of our service and safety operations and it is vital that we continue to offer our customers ways to achieve the highest level of confidence in their products before bringing them to market.

“Over the past 18 months, we have been working towards acquiring UKAS accreditation for Functional Safety (ISO 26262) to ensure we can meet these changing industry demands for vehicle OEMs and companies utilising automotive electrical components. This accreditation will offer customers the benefit of an impartial, professional assessment that is recognised internationally as a measure of quality.”

The addition of ISO26262 to the Schedule of Accreditation from UKAS increases the capability already gained for accreditation for the purpose of Notified Body Activity for the Construction Products Regulation, Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, Machinery Directive, Outdoor Noise Directive and Radio Equipment and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive.

UKAS accreditation provides an assurance of the competence, impartiality and integrity of conformity assessment bodies. UKAS accredited certification, testing and calibration and inspection reduces the need for suppliers to be assessed by each of their customers. Accreditation by UKAS means that evaluators have been assessed against internationally recognised standards to demonstrate their competence, impartiality and performance capability.
