A school is celebrating a new three-year partnership which will bolster links to the world of work.
The Nuneaton Academy has formed a deal with MIRA, the advanced engineering research and test consultancy.
The partnership was developed through a scheme called ‘Business in the Community’ which links schools to businesses to raise the profile of careers and links to the world of work for learners.
Sharon Tedds from the Nuneaton Academy, which is located in Stockingford, said MIRA was a ‘natural link’ for the school because of its specialities.
“The academy has a specialism in science and engineering so it made sense to link up with a business that represents both of these industries along with having fantastic facilities,”
she explained.
MIRA is currently working in partnership with the Radnor Drive school to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Days, run mock interviews and deliver employability skills to students.
Lisa Rowles from MIRA said:
“MIRA Academy has developed key partnerships with a number of local schools and colleges.
“These partnerships provide an essential link for an employer like MIRA with the local education providers.
“Through these links MIRA has the opportunity to help in the development of our future staff and their skills. The partnership with Nuneaton Academy is an essential part of this work.
“Recently we have provided Employability and Interview Skills sessions to develop essential skills for the workplace.”
Helen McEvoy, principal of the Nuneaton Academy added:
“This partnership has already brought benefits to our young people and we look forward to all the new opportunities this represents.”
The Nuneaton Academy is sponsored by North Warwickshire and Hinckley College and is a member of The Midland Academies Trust (MAT).
MAT is an innovative multi academy trust, set up by the college, to develop a network of academies who will work together and with the college to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
“It offers unrivalled and unique local opportunities to students through working towards academic excellence, and through a dynamic mix of vocational expertise and resource supported by the college and partner employers,”
