MIRA to Showcase Latest Low Carbon R&D Projects and Intelligent Mobility Expertise at Innovate UK

MIRA – the advanced engineering, research and test consultancy – has announced it will showcase a number of collaborative current low carbon technology research and development projects at ‘Innovate UK’ in London on 11-13 March 2013.

MIRA to Showcase Latest Low Carbon R&D Projects and Intelligent Mobility Expertise at Innovate UK

Several of the projects, which are part-funded by the Technology Strategy Board, cover a number of emerging low carbon technologies for both urban and commercial vehicles, ranging from whole vehicle integration to nascent technology development. Programmes include the trialling of dual fuel commercial vehicles for reduced CO2 emissions along with MIRA’s work on the hybrid conversion of an urban commercial vehicle designed to reduce environmental impact.

Chris Reeves, Commercial Manager – Intelligent Mobility & Future Transport Technologies said:

“MIRA has been working extensively with a range of partners to address carbon and greenhouse gas reductions. By bringing a broad range of partners together, and combining their multi-disciplinary skills, the support of the Technology Strategy Board has been critical to the development of technologies that could address the global issues facing the transport sector. It helps mitigate the risk of undertaking highly innovative projects where the scale of the problem is too large for one member of the team to tackle alone.”

Talking about Innovate UK, which is held at the Business Design Centre in London, Iain Gray, Chief Executive of the Technology Strategy Board said:

“All our exhibitors are specially selected by the Technology Strategy Board and UKTI because of their work in developing and bringing to market truly innovative products, services or technologies. We’re very pleased MIRA is taking part in the event and believe it is a great representation of the UK’s strength in research and development of new transport technologies.”

MIRA is also working on Intelligent Mobility technologies and concepts as it believes intelligent and connected vehicles and consumers will have a major impact on the efficiency of existing transport infrastructure and carbon reduction across the sector. Dr. Anthony Baxendale, Manager – Future Transport Technologies & Research, will be taking part in a seminar at the event entitled ‘Intelligent transport systems making a real difference for travellers’ which will focus on the value of technological innovation and information and exploiting existing traveller data.

MIRA’s highly innovative and advanced Intelligent Mobility demonstrator will also be on display at the event, highlighting active safety systems such as collision avoidance technology utilising MIRA’s Proving Ground Management System and a highly accurate ‘ground truth’ positioning system.
