Dr George Gillespie OBE

Dr. George Gillespie OBE joined MIRA in January 2009 as CEO, leading the turnaround in the business and developing its international presence. In 2015 he led the sale of MIRA to HORIBA Ltd, Japan, and led the integration of HORIBA MIRA Ltd into the HORIBA group.
In 2018 Dr Gillespie became Executive Chairman for HORIBA MIRA and took on a global role within the HORIBA group. As President he is responsible for HORIBA’s Automotive business and is an Executive Corporate Officer of HORIBA Ltd, Japan.
Building on a PhD from Queen’s University, Belfast for research into low emission engines, Dr Gillespie has over 30 years international experience in the automotive and marine product development sectors having been VP Strategic Product Development at HORIBA Europe GmbH and previously held senior roles with Ricardo plc and Schenck AG. He has worked extensively in the UK, Germany, USA, Japan and China.
In addition to his work at HORIBA, Dr Gillespie is a Board Member and Deputy President of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Ltd (SMMT) having held the role of President from 2019 – 2021. George is also a member of the Strategy Group within the UK Automotive Council and represented the UK at the 2016 G7 Summit on Intelligent Mobility. Dr Gillespie also serves as a non-executive Board Member for the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) Ltd.
